THE GARDEN

I started planting not very long time. To be honest, I am not a fan of gardening or things like that before 2020. Woolies had a program "Little Garden". After certain trips of shopping, there were not much but quite a few, and I put all those aside in a drawer.

I remembered the first time (2019) to set up our "little garden" was in late Spring or early Summer. Because my children loves tomatoes and strawberries, and my husband is a "Yes Pa Pa", he then went to Bunnings to shop all the things that needed for the plants. My husband bought one of each (the tomatoes and strawberries), and we selected and planted some of what we have collected at Woolies in the other pots.

Our first attempt in planting is failed: tomatoes and strawberries produced fruits but the whole plant dried out and turned lifeless within a short period of time; Cabbage, lettuce and carrot were not success. All of them we later found out due to either pest or water related issues. We cleared them out and leave the pots there.

One year past, when I looking at the pots with the soil in them without any plant or flowering, what a waste. I also want to see and bring the joy to my children, can't stop imagining how happy and excited if they can harvest or saw the successful growing plants. That motivate me to have an other attempt.

Due to the pandemic and lockdowns (2020), which made shopping not that easy so as the cost. So this time, I looked up on the internet for more information such as the requirement of water, sunlight, type of soil, size of pot...etc.

This time, I chose some herbs: Rosemary, Lavender, and ginger to start with (because of low maintenance) in order to increase the successful rate. Tried sesame plant and Aloe Vera as well. The result is wonderful, the sesame plant and lavender have beautiful flowers. Rosemary and the ginger grows green leaves. I harvested my ginger and showed it to my family, they were so happy. We decided to add some more new plants for our "little garden".

Personal Reflection:

Every time when watering the plants, I also will look at the leaves, if found caterpillars, I will pick them off the plant by hands. If weather permitted, I will inspect the roots and soils to see whether any diseases or pests around.

All these remind me how God looking after us with care. We are like the plants in His garden (Heavenly Kingdom), full of variety, colour, fragrant, characteristic...etc and God is the gardener. As a gardener, He of course likes to see His gardening plants blooming with prosperity. But some reasons may affect the quality of His plants, such as pests, diseases, poor watering, lack of sunlight, malnutrition...etc., all these refer to as evil doing, sins and temptations.

So, how to maintain healthy and happy plants? The only solution is, get rid of all the bad causes, if noticed any, quickly fix the problem and get rid of them. It is like going to Confession / Reconciliation. It can be hard for us to maintain pure and clean all the time for our souls without the damage of sins. But with the help of Christ, God will give us different graces and blessings, it is like using natural organic pesticides, plants net or other sort of things to get rid of the pests (temptations) or relocation to a place with lots of sunlight or adjust soils for better nutrients, it is like receiving Holy Communion at Mass, which gives soul strength and energy in order to maintain a healthy and happy soul.

He will never forsake us, if we asked for help, He always have remedies and solutions ready to help us out.
